If you are looking for a minimalist shoe that is made in the USA, read on to learn about minimalist shoe brands that manufacture their products in the United States.
For some of us that have found our way to minimalist footwear, minimalism has crossed over into other aspects of how we live, if it wasn’t there already.
Knowing who we are buying from and the story of the things in our lives often times means knowing where the things come from.
This may mean that buying footwear made in close proximity to where you live may be important.
For those of use living in United States, this means finding shoes that are made in the USA.
Luckily, we have some great brands available to us that operate out of and manufacture within the United States.
Read on to learn more about these brands. You can find out more about these brands and view their full catalog by clicking their associated links.
Also, at the bottom of this post, I’d love to hear from you. Are you familiar with any of these brands, or will you be trying any of their shoes now that you’ve learned about them?
Based out of Richmond, CA, Bedrock Sandals offers a line of adventure sandals. They describe their shoes as “freedom footwear for the great outdoors”.
The design and materials used for the strap create a durable shoe and adjustable experience. The adjustability allows for a customizable, snug fit to minimize slippage while traversing varying terrain.
Bedrock Sandals use Vibram soles of various thicknesses, ranging from 7 to 16 mm, which allows for options depending upon your preferences.
The company backs their products up with their Rock Solid Warranty and gives back as a 1% For The Planet member.
Based out of Sonoma, CA, Earth Runners offers huarache sandals designed to allow you to be grounded to their earth while wearing shoes. This gives you more of the being-barefoot benefits, while still enjoying some of the protective benefits of a shoe.
Their Vibram soles range in thickness from 8 to 12 mm with varying tread to allow for you to choose the shoe that fits your own preferences and activity-needs.
In addition to offering three different models of huarache sandals, they offer you the ability to turn other shoes (maybe a pair of closed-toed shoes) into “earthing shoes”. You can purchase a kit to add the copper plug they use with their sandals to create the grounding effect.
Based out of Seattle, WA, Luna Sandals was founded by ultra-runner Barefoot Ted of Born To Run fame. They offer a diverse catalog of huarache sandals for everything from long-distance running to casual wear.
Most of their sandals come with a Vibram sole. However, the Origen models don a tire sole, which was inspired by Barefoot Ted’s experience with the indigenous tribe, the Tarahumara, down in the Copper Canyons of NW Mexico.
Luna Sandals’ line truly offers something for everyone. With their Roots Builder and Customize option, you can fit the sandals to your liking for both performance and appearance, as you can choose from multiple colors.
Based in Santa Cruz, CA, Shamma Sandals offers another great line of huarache-style sandals with models tailored for running and adventure-use and other models for casual, everyday wear.
Shamma offers three main sole options geared towards different terrain and thickness preferences. Their Ultra Collection is geared more towards running and hiking, where their Classic Collection is for casual wear. The difference between the two collections are the straps with a hook-and-loop style strap with the Ultra Collection and a continuous leather strap with the Classic Collection.
The Vibram sole thicknesses range from 5 to 12 mm. With the Ultra Collection, you get to choose between their tobacco brown leather or UltraGrip footbeds, with the UltraGrip being the recommended option for especially wet conditions.
Based in Philomath, OR, Softstar Shoes is our first listed here that doesn’t make huarache sandals. Softstar makes handmade, leather shoes in various styles for both everyday, casual wear, and options for running and/or natural movement.
What began decades ago as a moccasin company for babies and kids has grown and evolved into a company that produces high-quality minimalist shoes for the entire family.
Many models can be customized with respect to color, and they will accommodate special requests in certain instances.
The shoes feature a range of stack thicknesses, but are all on the more-minimal side of the spectrum. The thickest stack height is 12 mm. Many shoes feature Vibram soles, but some have leather as a sole option or as the default.
Based in Cedar City, UT, Unshoes has expanded from only offering minimalist sandals to also offering closed-toed options.
Their six different adult sandal options all come with a low stack height of 10 mm or less. They vary in their strap configurations, with some being more huarache-styled and others being more Chaco-like. They also offer an affordable kid option with the Children’s Keota.
Their three closed-toed options include a lace-up boot, a vegan slip-on, and a leather moccasin.
The soles differ from the other options mentioned in that they are not Vibram soles. They use a thin, flexible material with either a suction cup or star-patterned tread.
Unshoes can customize some of the sandal options to accommodate differences in foot shapes.
