Altra did this shoe right. Snug midfoot with a wide toe box. It feels like a glove on my foot, where it is snug but doesn’t press on my foot uncomfortably. I think this shoe will be an amazing racing shoe for, well, any distance! Sizing is true, as long as you use one of the insoles, and not both. I prefer the white, thinner one because I never really liked the traditional contoured ones. Plus, it’s thinner and allows for more ground feel. The sole is slightly cushy but not enough to interfere with biomechanics. It feels like you are running on a track, where there is a slight give to it. This might actually be a good thing, by affording you more confidence when you want to just go FAST. My only complaint is the outsole: there is only rubber under the big toe and the lateral heel. The initial contact point of my foot is the fifth metatarsal, or the lateral forefoot. There is only exposed EVA there. I am worried that it will wear down at this spot and become uneven, but by running with a light gait, I don’t think this will be a huge issue. Nonetheless, that is an area to improve upon an otherwise amazing shoe.
